Oh, Your American....

I'm so frusterated today. I since working here I have been slowly disguising my accent. I just find I get a better reaction from people, but I also don't have to repeat myself a lot. Anyway, today I guess I haven't done as good of a job. I have had several different vendors refuse to help me with a call because I'm American! What makes me mad is because if I sounded Indian or from another country it would not phase them. That is very frusterating to deal with. I can only change my accent so much, but it really pisses me off that I even have to!!!! ARGH!!!

Totally stinks!

And to think i would get mad about being joked in the south because I called soda "Pop." Well, apparently, i called it "PAAAAAP," and i said, "You guys" all the time instead of "Y'all." Well, I'm back, and I'm saying you guys and Pop again...Gotta get oat of here.

yeah it does.

but let me say, Canadians have been very good to me. it is just frusterating when there are a few that get squirlly when they hear an "american accent". I don't want to prejudice any of y'all to think all Canadians are like this. just happens a few times here and there. and when it does it really hacks me off. :P

"Squirrelly" is an expression I've heard for years. I can remember John Kentner saying it at hockey games all the time, i.e. "Bertuzzi got right squirrelly and drove the guy right in front of the ref."

Yep, I concur....I've used the word squirrelly all my life! And yes - I'm from the midwest. Now Jewels, the other day I was talking on the phone to a customer service rep, and right in the middle of the convo I interrupted him to ask if he was from Canada. He was indeed. Alberta as a matter of fact. And he wasn't even using the words out or about - it was just a Canadian accent. I have a good friend from Canada so I am very used to the nuances of the accent, and he spoke almost identical to Phi. :) Anyway, he didn't seem offended, just surprised that some actually noticed! LOL

Well I am happy that Y'll have heard squirely most of your lives, it still sounds strange to anglophone ears i.e. those of us who are accustomed to think of the language as English and not as 'American'.

I was under the impression, that Canadians were determined to resist cultural influence from south of the border, perhaps I was mistaken Blake.
