Live8
I'm watching Live8 at work today! Coldplay was amazing! I can't think of any acts in Canada I'm looking forward to really, although they are crossing their fingers for an apperance from the Rolling Stones, which would be really cool.
At any rate, I hope these concerts bring awareness and people start changing some part of thier lifestyle or contribute in some way to help the poverty and AIDS in Africa, but as well in their own respective country.
How can you get more info and help, click on the Make Poverty History banner on my blog. :)
Found this verse and it seems so fitting for today:
Psalm 31:9 "Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy." Epilogue: The Wife of Noble Character

That's funny, Coldplay was the only group I saw before I went out this morning, and yes, they were good (and it was great to have Richard Ashcroft singing "Bittersweet Symphony" with them).
This sucks! I have to go to sleep now so I can work again tonight. I'm going to miss the whole thing.
I like the Barenaked Ladies, and they're Canadian, eh.
yeah, its been really good so far. I got chills with Madonna and "Like A Prayer", there have been some really good moments! Thank goodness that we get to watch tv here at work! ;)
Listening to Kanye West right now! I'm sorry Jesus Walk still gives me chills.
The problem is corrupt governments. It's they who keep their citizens in poverty. We continuously throw aid to these countries and yet nothing comes of it. The corrupt communist countries in Africa and other places never allow the aid to get the people who need it. Forgiving the debt of these countries is one way to help, but until these governments are overthrown, I'm afraid that little progress will be made.
your right. it does have to do with the government as well. I personally think that we can help push the ball a little. I also think it helps bring awarness. So many people, in North American namely, think we live in a bubble and never think of people who are not living in the same conditions. I would be happy if it movtivated people to help homeless and less fortunate in their country.
As a christian I think we all know to make poverty complete history is going to be an impossible task, but I think because we are called to help the less fortunate it is a right and worthy cause.
On another note; I was really miffed at something Brad Pitt said. He made a comment basically saying no child should not be helped because of what country they were brought into. Anyway, it lead me to think about abortion and the lightness our culture has of abortion. To me in my mind no child should suffer or be killed, just my opinion though. :P
