What Is The Difference?

Tell me what is the difference?
I heard someone say the other day:
"I did not lie, I just took back my word"

thoughts?

If you give your word, you follow through, no matter what the cost, no matter what information comes to light after you did so. Don't give your word lightly, but once done you need to be committed to following through, and resolved to remain loyal and responsible no matter what the cost. Just a few thought from our sermon on friendship today.

How to be a great friend: (using David and Jonathan as the illustration)

1. spend Time together
2. be Open with each other
(accountability and vulnerability)
3. be Honest with each other
(even if the truth hurts....)
4. Have the quality of Trust (Make sure you are trustworthy)
5. Have the quality of Committment
6. Have the quality of Resolve
7. Be Loyal

(BTW - that statement sounds like what Jennifer said on BB....)

LOL, it came from her actually. I have heard it so much on the live feeds from her, it made me think.
I wanted to hear what people's thoughts were outside of the game.

I love the sermon thoughts! thanks!! :)

Lying seems to be me to encompass delibrate dishonesty, in word, deed or silence. If someone 'takes back their word' and they did not intend to do so earlier then she did not lie, because she did not originally mislead anyone.

However that is not the end of it. The person is, if I understand correctly, breaking faith, because the person is now not going to follow through with their promises or undertakings.

Obviously God wants us to do what we say we are going to do.

This reminds me though of that irritating thing people say when they are mistaken or forgetful. Some people will say "I lie" meaning, I forgot x, or I was mistaken about y. Of course they aren't lying, just incompetent which is not a sin, but the fake humility of "I lie" is a sin.
